Classic Country Lyrics: "Highway Patrol" von Red Simpson

Als in den 70ern die Truckersongs von Dave Dudley, Dick
Curless und Red Sovine ihre grossen Erfolge feierten, woll-
ten die abseits von Nashville, Tennessee tätigen Produzen-
ten, nämlich jene in Bakersfield, Kalifornien, auf den Zug
aufspringen und wollten zunächst Merle Haggard verpflich-
ten, Truckersongs aufzunehmen. Der wollte dies aber nicht,
mit dem Truckerleben konnte er sich zu wenig identifizie-
ren. Ersatz fand man ihn Red Simpson, der mit Songs wie
"Roll, Truck, Roll" und "I'm A Truck" den Trucker auch im
Bakersfield-Sound einführte. Manchmal, wie beim Song
"Highway Patrol", erzählte er ausnahmsweise nicht aus der
Sicht des Truckers, sondern aus jener des Polizisten.
